7 Seasonal Fruit Crisp Recipes: Savor Summer

It’s summertime! It’s time to make beautiful and delicious summer fruit crisps! Try our seven seasonal fruit crisp recipes to liven up your dessert.

Summer fruits that you may find at your local farmer’s market include berries, peaches, strawberries, plums and cherries. Mix any of your favorites with a touch of sugar, cinnamon and a little citrus juice and top with your favorite crumb topping and you’re in for a delight. Crisp toppings are usually made to be quite sweet, so the fruit fillings are usually unsweetened or prepared with tart fruits like apples, cherries, and plums.

1. Plum-Blackberry-Peach Crisp:The seasonal fruits in this easy show-stopper are a triple juicy threat. Plums, blackberries and under-ripe peaches, oh my!

2. No Bake Peach Crisp: Or how about this easy no bake peaches version? Yum! You can cool down while indulging in the traditional “baked” dessert with our recipe for no-bake peach crisp. And it’s raw and vegan. Bonus.

3. Mixed Berry Plum Crisp: Check out this beauty with a trio of berries plus plums. Blackberries, raspberries and blueberries highlight this summertime crisp. We have all of those berries growing in our back porch container garden. So this crisp is a favorite for us.

4. Billions of Blueberries Crisp: Are you a blueberry purist? Try this blueberry pie minus the crust and with a crumb topping. Delicious!

5. Triple Berry Crisp: Even if you don’t have fresh berries handy, you can delight in an easy mixed berries and granola crisp straight from your frozen store of last year’s berries.

6. Peach and Strawberry Crumble: Fresh peaches and strawberries topped with an oat crumble? The kids are going to love this delicious treat. Top that baby with a dollop of ice cream and life can’t get much sweeter.

7. Cherry Crisp: The piece de resistance of crisps, in my humble opinion, is cherry. This absolute delight from Brown Eyed Baker is made with fresh pitted cherries and is sure to blow your mind.

Want to make your own crisp? Simply allow your fresh fruit to macerate in a bit of citrus juice and sugar. Or use previously preserved fruit. Then add a crisp topping. It is typically made of flour, sugar, butter, and oats. This crumbly mixture is sprinkled freely over the fruit filling, and the resulting baked dish has a crisped, lightly browned topping—hence the name “crisp.”
