4 Incredible Homemade Hair Treatments from Your Kitchen

As uptight as some of us may be when it comes to rubbing in the SPF and making sure to cover up sunburn-prone skin, we often tend to forget to protect a vital part of our appearance from the sun’s unforgiving rays: our hair. Exposure to the sun can dry out the hair and make it brittle, wispy, and overall unhealthy looking. The following homemade hair treatments are here to turn your bad hair day (rather, summer season) into a good one. Better yet, these homemade hair treatments include ingredients that are outside of the box and infused with some summer fun.

1. Beer

Save the calories and the belly by passing beer to your hair, not your mouth. Beer contains yeast that helps to perk up tired, dull tresses. First, pour beer into a cup and let it sit for an hour to minimize any carbonation. Next, bomb the beer into your hair locks so that it distributes evenly. Let sit for 20 minutes before rinsing clean. Beer is known to give hair extra softness and shine, a true reflection of the summer sun! Repeat twice per month.

2. Eggs

Rich in fats and protein, eggs are excellent for boosting hair health and keeping strands strong throughout the dry summer months. Use the entire egg to condition hair and just the egg whites to treat oily hair. Simply whisk 1 egg and massage into clean, damp hair and scalp. Let sit for 30 minutes before rinsing clean. Repeat once per month.

3. Baking Soda

After a long day outdoors, either on the beach or in nature, your hair can pick up all kinds of residue. Baking soda eats through buildup and breaks down anything acidic. To apply, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with water to form a past. Massage into damp hair and scalp and let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing clean. Repeat twice per month.

4. Vodka

Now, before you take a swig, consider applying some vodka to your hair instead! Dilute vodka with water before massaging into hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing and cleaning as usual. This will leave your tresses shiny and glowing!
