Get Beach Hair Without the Beach with This Easy Homemade Hair Spray Recipe

beach hair

We all want that effortless summertime beach hair, even when thousands of miles away from sand and waves. Luckily, you can create that sun-kissed look yourself without going on a vacation. The following recipe is for a hair spray that gives your hair subtle waves and natural highlights, as if you’ve emerged from the salty ocean waters and let your hair dry under the sun.

This beach hair spray recipe is based in salt, chamomile tea and lemon juice. The salt helps to lightly thicken and stiffen the hair to mimic the effect of salty ocean water. The lemon juice and chamomile have natural lightening properties and will bring out the glow from otherwise dull, darker strands. The recipe also involves aloe vera and almond oil, so you can offset the drying effects of the salt and lemon juice. To emanate a breezy, cool aura, you can add a few drops of essential oils. For the summer, I suggest using one or a combination of the following: basil, peppermint, rosemary, lavender, tea tree, lemon, lemon grass or eucalyptus. Enjoy!

Beach Hair Spray Recipe

Makes about 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot chamomile tea water
  • 2 tablespoons Epsom salts
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure aloe vera juice
  • ½ teaspoon almond oil
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • A few drops of essential oils of your choice

Directions

Get a spray bottle that is able to hold about 1 cup plus 2-3 more tablespoons. Pour the hot tea water into the spray bottle and add the remaining ingredients. Place the cap on the bottle and shape for 1-2 minutes until the Epsom salt and sea salt are dissolved. Store in the fridge. The beach hair spray will last for 2-3 months.
