Jessa Blades’ Natural Beauty Faves for Fall

We’re entering what’s arguably the most wonderful time of the year. Cool, crisp air, salted caramel, downy sweaters, warm cups of cocoa, and colors—magical, beautiful colors. Just like the leaves in autumn, fall beauty also begins to change. This season, however, we have Jessa Blades to help us take the guesswork out of what’s on-trend and which natural beauty products you won’t want to miss.

Celebrity makeup artist, natural beauty authority, wellness expert, and herbalist, Jessa Blades transformed her business in 2008 when she took the initiative to ban chemicals from her makeup bag and her clients’ skin. The same year, she founded her company, Blades Natural Beauty, with the goal to “provide sustainable beauty routines, pure products, and expert advice for anyone looking to detox their medicine cabinet and heal—instead of hide—their imbalances.”

With 15 years of combined experience as a makeup artist and natural beauty expert, Blades has made it her mission to teach women to beautify themselves from the inside out with a holistic approach that incorporates natural and healing makeup, as well as food and herb-based medicine with an emphasis on self-care.

In addition to beautifying celebrities and teaching women to honor their bodies, minds, and skin, Blades has been featured as one of Glamour magazine’s “70 Amazing Eco-Heroes” and chosen as TreeHugger’s “Best Green Makeup Artist.” She has contributed to Vogue, The New York Times, Mind Body Green, Into the Gloss, Style.com, Well and Good, Natural Health, Organic Spa, and appeared on The Today Show. Most recently, Jessa was chosen to be on the Clean Beauty Council with Credo Beauty, the first of its kind.

Fall Trend Predictions

When it comes to the essence of fall beauty this year, Blades acknowledges the sheer variety of looks she’s spotted on the runways, but admits that they are all “really beautiful and special looks.” Blades describes these autumn trends as, “brights and then soft pastels, healthy and glowy skin, plus art-inspired creative color combos.”

Blades predicts that browns and blacks will be hot lip shades this season. She also dishes on the all-over hues and details we’ll be seeing a lot of this autumn. “Clean eyeliner for a cat eye, colorful bright pops of eye color, white eyeliner, sun-kissed orange/coral lips, and glitter,” are the looks you’ll want to reach for if you’re keeping up with seasonal beauty trends.

As for ingredients, well, those change with the seasons, too. You may need more moisture and TLC for your skin when the heat and humidity suddenly dissipate. It could also be that your skin starts to look a little dull or lackluster. Fortunately, the ingredients and tools Blades suggests are fresh and ideal for combating many of these common seasonal issues. Look to natural or crystal-infused tools, like jade or rose quartz gua sha, CBD oil (see our guide), turmeric, and crushed pearl powder.

Jessa’s Natural Beauty Favorites

1. Axiology Lipstick

Blades loves a bright and bold crimson lip, so she suggested Credo Axiology in True. A matte lip is still trending for fall, and this would look great worn for the holiday party circuit this season. Pair your bold lip with a sexy, dramatic cat-eye and plenty of highlighter.

2. Maya Chia Liquid Highlighter

Highlighter is the secret to giving off I-got-10-hours-of-sleep-last-night vibes. Still the best way to finish off any makeup look, you’ll want to grab this Maya Chia Highlighter stat. “This is a great one for a cheek highlight, or if you want more of an all over halo, put a drop of this into your moisturizer,” suggests Blades.

3. W3ll People Liquid Eyeliner

We’ve heard that a clean cat-eye is trending for fall, so perfect your wings with W3ll People Expressionist Eyeliner. The felt tip makes this eyeliner simple to use, but Blades assures us not to be afraid to “go back into the tube with your own brush and fix the liner if you need to.”

4. Kjaer Weis Lip Tint

Blades recommends choosing “Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Goddess for the perfect fall lip tint that looks like you had some delicious wine, or ate too many berries.” This would be a lovely tint for a day or night lip and can take you to family gatherings, parties, sexy date nights, and beyond.

5. Vapour Mesmerize Eyeliner

This daring purple hue is perfect for breaking up the monotony and trying something new. Choose Vapour Mesmerize Eyeliner in Viper “for that perfect eggplant” that’s easy to smudge on the bottom lash line. “And don’t worry if it doesn’t match the color you used on top,” assures Blades.

6. Lily Lolo Mineral Blush

“A well-placed, perfect pink blush is very necessary, and we saw it on the runways this Sseptember,” says Blades. She’s a big fan of the Lily Lolo Mineral Blush in In the Pink. It’s also a great item to have when you need a quick dash of all-over color. Use this on your lids, cheeks, and mix it in with some sheer chapstick for the lips.

7. Vapour Mesmerize Eye Color

Blades recommends the Vapour Mesmerize Eye Color in Ace “for the tiniest bit of glitter and glowy lavender color to accent on the eye.” A lovely ethereal holiday look, or eye-catching day glow, this eyeshadow is stunningly gorgeous and unique.

8. RMS Eye Polish

Akin to “Tom Ford runway vibes,” says Blades, “the perfect glittery gold shadow is a must-have for fall.” Try the RMS Eye Polish in either Lucky (pictured) or Lunar. Beautiful in its simplicity, “you can use your finger and just swipe it all over your lid with a bit of black liner.”
