Actress and Duchess-to-be Meghan Markle has always been refreshingly candid about how she keeps in shape. Whether it’s going for a run or practicing yoga, the newest member of the royal family likes to stay fit with a variety of different exercises.

The latest workout in her arsenal? Pilates.

Pilates Platinum is hands down the best thing you could do for your body,” Markle recently told Women’s Health U.K., referring to the L.A. boutique studio chain founded by her personal trainer, turned close friend, Heather Dorak. “The results are incredible.”

Adding, “Your body changes immediately … give it two classes and you will see a difference.”

Hey, if it’s fit enough for a future Duchess, then it must be fit enough for us commoners. If you’re looking to strengthen and lengthen your body, here’s what you need to know about this royalty-approved workout.

What is Pilates Platinum?

According to the studio’s website, Pilates Platinum is “Pilates reinvented into a cardio and strength training workout.” In a small group setting, clients endure 55 minutes on the Megaformer for a full-body fat burning and conditioning workout that can burn up to 700 calories per workout. Bonus? The studio uniquely never repeats a workout twice.

What is the Megaformer?

The Megaformer sounds pretty intense, and that’s probably because it is. Developed by personal trainer Sebastien Lagree, the Megaformer is a state-of-the-art version of the Reformer machine, which merges Pilates with bodybuilding.

“I needed to devise a workout that’s going to give you the same kind of result [as high-impact activities like weightlifting and running] — it’s going to chisel you and sculpt you and tone you — but it’s not going to destroy you,” Lagree told PopSugar.com.

Using adjustable spring-loaded resistance to allow for a customizable resistance load that is engaged via slow, deliberate movements on isolated muscles groups, you’re in for a rigorous high-intensity low-impact workout.

What’s the Workout?

Socks with grippers are required for each class at Pilates Platinum (they’re available for purchase at the studio). Through a series of cardio and muscle-focused exercises, classes blend Pilates, cycle and Pilates, cycle with Weights, and Barre classes, with each workout designed to work your body to muscle fatigue.

The studio recommends three sessions a week for best results, and to allow you to properly recover and repair. (Because it’s that intense.)

The Takeaway

While a workout at Pilates Platinum can’t guarantee a royal engagement, it will result in a stronger, leaner body. If you’re interested in trying out Markle’s favorite workout, the studio has three L.A.-based locations in Brentwood, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica.
