How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

How to stay healthy during the holiday season doesn’t have to be difficult. Keeping ahead of all the extra salt and sugar your friends and family will be doling out is essential to keeping your health intact this holiday season.

Need some inspiration? Here are a few tips for avoiding packing on those holiday pounds.

How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

1. Get the Junk Out

Shoveling away junk into your over-hungry body is all too easy when you’re hustling and bustling along. So, just keep all the junk out of your home. After all, you can make tastier sweets, salty finger foods and healthier holiday comfort foods than you can buy at the store. And remember: All that store-bought stuff? Really not that good (seriously). If you do have to indulge a little, have a few bites at the holiday office party.

2. Always Bring a “Healthy” Desert to the Party

Don’t want to eat those fatty cookies, or that too-rich-for-anyone eggnog? Make your own. There are plenty of raw or vegan deserts that taste incredible. You can indulge your sweet tooth without having to betray your healthy lifestyle.

3. You Don’t Have to Go to Every Party

I don’t know about you, but I get an insane amount of holiday invites every year. Between family, friends, and work it all can become a bit overwhelming. So, you have to – have to! – prioritize. Only go to the events that are absolutely essential, and the soirees that you know you really want to go to. And remember: You don’t have to stay until the end. Often times, popping into an event for 30 minutes to an hour is totally acceptable.

4. Eat Everything with Intention

No matter what you decide to eat – if it’s healthy or not (we all make mistakes) – make sure you enjoy what you are eating and eat with intention. Think about every bite, chew, and chomp. And while you are thinking about it – please – enjoy it. After all, it’s only the “holidays” once every year.
