9 Meditation Apps to Get Your Om On

Woman meditating

We’re so used to hearing chatter about how technology is stressing us out, we forget how useful it’s becoming for de-stressing too. Take meditation apps, for example: They’re a convenient way to find zen at work, home, and on the go. In fact, I have no idea how I functioned so long without them!

Here are 9 meditation apps to take for a spin, all of which can be customized to suit your lifestyle:

1. Stop, Breathe & Think

How often do you check in with yourself to see how you’re feeling? My guess: Not as often as you should (in my case, barely ever). Stop, Breathe & Think is a fabulous free app that not only reminds you to check in with yourself mentally, physically and emotionally, but recommends meditations geared toward your current mindset. (Cha-ching!)

2. Headspace

The Headspace app provides 10-minute meditation sessions that start with a brief body scan. You’re then taken through the meditation with casual instruction by Andy Puddicombe, Headspace co-founder. There’s also cool animations about how the mind works and tips on how to get the most out of your meditation practice.

3. Buddhify

Whether you’re just waking up or taking a break at work, Buddhify has dozens of meditation options for practically every scenario. It’s built for busy bees with less than 10 minutes to spare, and is also perfect for beginners just dipping their toes into the world of meditation apps.

4. Simply Being

This app is highly customizable based on your needs and skill level. From tranquil backgrounds to a choice of session lengths and meditators, there are many options available to you – and as your experience level grows, Simply Being grows with you.

5. Take a Break

When you’re starting to feel frazzled or overwhelmed by the amount of work you have to do, the best thing you can do is take a breather – literally. Take a Break offers a 7-minute work break meditation that will help you get back on track in no time.

6. Breathe2Relax

Breathe2Relax is a personal trainer that takes you through the process of acing your diaphragmatic breathing skills, which is one of the best ways to de-stress. You’re able to choose the scenery, background music, and customize the length of an inhale/exhale that works best for you. Ah-mazing.

7. Calm

This is one of those meditation apps where just the name of it makes you feel better. Calm guides you in as little as two minutes and for up to twenty minutes. If you’re like me and suck at meditating on your own, you can add a narrator to your session.

8. Breathe Sync

Do you get so engrossed in what you’re doing you forget to take deep breaths? Yeah, me too. That’s why I’ve fallen in love with the Breathe Sync app. It measures the quality of your breath using your iPhone’s camera and gives you a “WQ” score to gauge how stressed you are.

9. Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation is an app by renowned psychotherapist Stephan Bodian. It features a super cool eight-week program, inspirational talks, as well as body relaxation scans to gauge where you currently stand. It’s a versatile app that works for every experience level.
