Organic Heirloom French Pumpkins, Cinderella’s Carriage

These beautiful Antique (heirloom) French Pumpkins entitled Cinderella’s Carriage, and the white Lumina pumpkin, are our celebration of fall. My husband and I harvested these beautiful heirloom pumpkins from one of our organic gardens (we have harvested 12 thus far).

The Cinderella Carriage pumpkins have a beautifully lobed shape that resembles Cinderella’s Carriage in the magical fairy tale. This thick skinned pumpkin sustains gorgeous deep, rich orange and red colors. These pumpkins grow to about 18-35 pounds and make wonderful Jack-O-Lanterns and spectacular pumpkin soup. The white Lumina pumpkins are a delight for children. They are great for painting (they have very smooth skin) and have an excellent flavor for cooking. They grow to 8-10 pounds.

I have a favorite pumpkin soup recipe that I make with our organic pumpkins every year. I serve this dish beginning around Halloween through Thanksgiving and each time my guests go crazy. Recently I served this soup to my 91 year old Grandmother who had never had pumpkin soup and she fell in love with it. Try this recipe with an organic heirloom pumpkin (not a regular jack-o-lantern as they can be too watery) and you are sure to be a hit at any dinner party.

If you are lucky you might be able to find these gorgeous pumpkins at your local farmers market or you can purchase the seeds for these pumpkins online at www.reneesgarden.com
