5 Organic Vodkas for the Perfect Summer Cocktail Party
Last week, we brought you organic tequila. This week, it’s vodka’s turn. After scouring the streets, web and bar scene, we’ve discovered five highly acclaimed organic vodkas and paired each with a delicious summer cocktail recipe. Throw in some earth-friendly lighting alternatives and sustainable, summer dishes; these libations are sure to create the most popular eco-chic parties of the season.
Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka
Use it to make: Screaming Viking
2 oz cucumber vodka
1 oz Dry Vermouth
1 oz lime juice
1 celery stalk
1 cucumber spear
Shake together liquid ingredients with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass. Serve with celery and cucumber garnish.
Kanon Organic Vodka
Use it to make: Lemon Splash Martini
2 ¼ oz vodka
½ oz Triple Sec
½ oz Amaretto
Juice from 1 lemon wedge
Shake together vodka, triple sec, amaretto and one light squeeze of the lemon wedge with ice. Squeeze the remaining juice from the lemon wedge into a martini glass, then pour vodka mixture over it. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Ocean Vodka
Use it to make: New Orleans Salty Dog
1 ½ oz vodka
5 oz grapefruit juice, preferably fresh-squeezed or organic (Try Lakewood Pink Grapefruit PURE)
Coarse sea salt
Rim a highball glass with sea salt and fill with ice. Shake together vodka and grapefruit juice with ice, then strain into salt-rimmed glass. Garnish with a citrus twist.
Rain Honey Mango Melon Vodka
Use it to make: Madras
1 ½ oz vodka
4 oz cranberry juice, preferably organic and 100% juice (try Wild Harvest)
1 oz orange juice, also preferably organic
Lime wedge
Fill a highball glass with ice and pour all liquid ingredients into it, in the order listed. Garnish with lime wedge.
Square One Botanical Vodka
Use it to make: Williams Explosion
1 ½ oz vodka
1 ½ oz pear juice, preferably organic (try R.W. Knudsen)
½ small ripe pear
Soda water
In a blender, mix together vodka, pear juice and pear until the fruit has just reached liquid form. Pour into a highball glass over ice and top with soda water.
