Health Benefits of Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup
What’s nice about making it at home, is that you can adjust it to your liking, make it sweeter or spicer. Make it less sweet with toned down spice. And you get the added benefit of knowing exactly what’s in it (nothing but goodness) — and what’s not (no yucky gums or anything artificial).

Pumpkin Puree
Pumpkin is filled with health-promoting carotenoids, including some of our favorite antioxidants – alpha and beta carotene – that may help reverse sun damage and slow aging while preventing cataracts and tumor growth.1, 2 The carotenoids also convert to vitamin A in the body, promoting healthy vision and proper immune function.3
The dark orange color means it’s also rich in lutein, which has been found to be important for heart and prostate health.
Pumpkin is also packed with fiber, so it’s a prebiotic that supports a healthy gut microbiome. Fiber has been touted in a recent research for its ability to help rid your body of microplastics! Pretty incredible.
Warming Spices: Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Nutmeg
Cinnamon: This ultimate cozy spice is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.4 It’s also said to support glucose levels.5
Ginger: This zesty powerhouse of the blend, most famously known for its long history as a potent digestive aid. It adds a pleasant subtle heat while helping to soothe the stomach.
Nutmeg brings a slightly sweeter, pungent aroma that is absolutely essential to the pumpkin profile; traditionally, it has been associated with containing compounds that may support relaxation and an improved mood.
Finally, cloves provide deep, resonant warmth to the syrup. They are highly concentrated in antioxidants (the most of any spice), which contribute to a healthy, comforting sip.
These spices work in harmony to create the iconic, comforting, and beneficial profile that defines the perfect pumpkin spice latte.
How to Serve Your Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup
It depends…how deep does your love for pumpkin pie flavors go? You’ll definitely want to go for the OG, the latte. Just pull your double shot (or hit the brew button on your Nespresso) over your desired dose of syrup (we’d start with a tablespoon). Then add your favorite foamed (or just warmed) milk.
Top this recipe with homemade pumpkin pie spice for even more fall flavor. Sip on it while eating your pumpkin chia seed pudding. For an afternoon pick up, snack on these no bake pumpkin spice balls. All that’s required are a handful of pantry staples!
Other options? Top your ice cream, drizzle on simple sugar cookies, add a spoonful to your morning protein shake. Finish off one of our most-loved recipes, slow cooker baked apples or this sweet potato and apple bowl. And, one of my faves, mix into your oatmeal with some sauteed apples and walnuts.
Ingredients
Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup
Preparation
- Heat water and sucanat over medium-high heat, in a small to medium saucepan, until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
- Add cinnamon sticks and whisk in remaining ingredients. Heat for about 5 minutes to marry flavors.
- Remove the cinnamon sticks, and pour the syrup into a mason jar or another cute jar like the Weck Tulip Jars above!
- To make a homemade pumpkin spice latte, simply add about a tablespoon of syrup to a cup of coffee with cream (and remember to top with the homemade pumpkin pie spice linked above!).
Kitchen Tools I Used
Making this syrup seriously couldn’t be easier, but it’s a real cinch when you have the right equipment!
The five-ply stainless saucepan from Made In marries the heat conduction of aluminum with the non-reactiveness of stainless for a saucepan that heats quickly and evenly. And thanks to the stay-cool long handle, you’ll never burn your hand!
Price 4 QT Saucepan: $169 at time of publish
We love these cute Weck Tulip Jars to store our syrup, so we can sip on PSLs all week long. They also make for an adorable gift that will actually get used.
