I am so sad to hear about this recall as I have been purchasing your goat and cow’s milk cheeses for a long time. This entire ordeal makes me suspect as the FDA is hellbent on putting raw milk farmers out of business. Your standards evidently make the conventional farmers look inept!

I hope you will be able to resume operations soon. Thank you for your commitment to healthy foods!

I understand your loyalty to a favorite brand. My questions for you:

1. Should mainstream and organic/natural/raw foods be held to the same pathogen standards?

2. Should small companies be exempt from inspections?

3. Would you eat other items that have been recalled because of possible contamination, even if no illnesses were reported? Past examples include:

This cheese “may” be contaminated and “no illnesses” have been reported to anyone, yet this manufacturer is forced to shut down operations and recall all goods?

I’ve got Morningland cheese in my fridge right this moment and I’ll feed it to myself and my children tomorrow just like I did today – and every day for the last several years.

I believe raw and organic foods should meet the same pathogen standards that apply to mainstream foods. Many recalls involve foods that have not sickened anyone, but test positive for salmonella, E. coli or listeria. This is why the FDA has beefed up inspections.

I’m not ready to subscribe to the conspiracy theory–yet. I’m certainly willing to be proved wrong with evidence.

The issue is theater. This is the set up to pass S510 which will destroy real food. While the Senate was off for August, we had the consolidated, industrial side issue with Wright Cty Egg, and then the shut down of Morningland. No illnesses here at all. However, they cannot move any product—even tho’ tested as safe!– and are having to dump their milk until they get the okay from the reglators. They’ll be out of business before that happens.

The rat you smell is real.

I wonder if it’s true at all or just a means for the FDA to crack down on raw. They felt threatened enough to elicit the help of just about every agency, enter a private buying club with guns drawn, and try to shut them down because they sell raw milk.

So here it is, September, and cheese from January to June hasn’t made anybody sick, but a major producer has had to recall the cheese and shut down operations, costing thousands of dollars in profit.

I smell a rat, a big one.
