pass the plate

What are you doing next week? How about hosting a party to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research? KitchenAid is currently promoting their Cook for the Cure program, and you can get involved.

The Premise

1,000 Cooks for the Cure is a program that invites people to host a party, get-together or shinding at home between July 20th and July 29th. As with most get-togethers, people are encouraged to bring a hostess gift, allthough instead of the traditional food, wine or chocolates, this party has at its heart a gift of a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, in order to help find a cure for breast cancer.

Breast cancer causes nearly 15 percent of cancer deaths in women, but, if caught early, it is also one of the most treatable cancers. Raising awareness for breast cancer can help diagnoses to be made earlier… and you can help!

How to Get Involved

Host a party! To register your party, simply go to the 1,000 Cooks for a Cure site. KitchenAid has offered several helpful guides to make hosting easier, like an Invitation Template to download and customize, a Party guide and plenty of recipe ideas.

Or try some of Organic Authority’s pink recipes, like our sparkling cocktail Ginger Champagne Granita, made with pink champagne or rosé, paired with our beet chips and organic cole slaw with cranberries. Simple, easy, and deliciously pink!

Also consider adding a mushroom dish to your menu. City of Hope researchers were among the first to identify a link between consuming mushrooms and a reduced risk of developing breast cancer. Our Grilled Shiitake Mushrooms would make quite a tasty party offering, and the research is a great topic for discussion with your guests.

Remember to print Donation forms for your guests so they can contribute to this very worthy cause.

Jacques Pepin’s Contribution

Jacques Pepin, French chef and cookbook author, is working in tandem with KitchenAid to promote this event. Any party host that raises $50 or more will receive a Villeroy & Boch “Pass the Plate” serving platter (valued at $24.95) designed by Jacques Pepin and be entered into a drawing for a dream culinary experience, a three-day trip to New York to attend one of Pépin’s professional cooking classes at the French Culinary Institute, a set of personally autographed Pépin cookbooks and dinner at the Institute’s famed L’Ecole restaurant. All hosts must register at CookfortheCure.com by July 29 and submit their donations by August 31, 2012 to be eligible for both prizes.
