Last week, we brought you an incredibly easy and effective recipe for DIY Bug Spray that we hope you’ll be toting along on your next adventure into the beautiful – although ruthless – great outdoors. That said, sometimes we forget our preventative measures, lose them, lend them, miiss a spot or even run out. The next time you find your skin becomes a feeding ground for an arsenal of seemingly ravenous mosquitos, leave your agony behind with these natural remedies to soothe all those unsightly – and even more uncomfortable – bites, because, although nature’s nuisances suck, nature is also cool enough to supply us with sweet, sweet relief.
- As soon as you can, apply apple cider vinegar right onto the bites. If the mosquitoes really feasted on you, take a hot bath with 2-3 cups of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in.
- We love this because while the peel nourishes the skin, the fruit nourishes our bellies after an outdoor session. Rub the inside of the banana peel on your bites, and as the itch begins to subside, dig in. You’ll forget all about the mosquito bites… for the time being.
- For big bites that are swollen and itchy, make a paste from baking soda and water. Then generously slather the paste over your bites.
- The strength onions have on your tear ducts also come in handy here. Place a freshly-cut slice on the affected area for several minutes until the itching subsides, and then wash the area afterwards.
- Give it a dab of your favorite peppermint toothpaste.
- If you’re scratching (and who can help it?!), apply a small amount of lime or lemon juice to keep the wound from becoming infected. It might burn a little… but in a good way.
