Discounts for Amazon Prime Members Roll Out to All Whole Foods Market Stores
All Amazon Prime members now have access to special savings at Whole Foods Market stores across the country. The nationwide rollout of the program, which started in Florida in May, was announced Monday and began Wednesday.
Perks include an additional 10 percent off discounted Whole Foods products and join other benefits exclusive to Prime members including 5 percent cash back for Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card holders.
Prime members have also gained access to new Prime Member Deals every week, including steep discounts on products like meat, fish, and produce. Prime Member Deals announced this week included a $5 per pound discount on baby back ribs and $6 per pound off wild caught Sockeye salmon.
In order to take advantage of these perks, Prime members must first download the Whole Foods app, which allows them to scan their prime code at checkout.
The program had already been available in nearly half of U.S. states in early June, and Whole Foods Market and Amazon executives alike say that it has been a hit with consumers so far.
“Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – in fact, Prime members have adopted this benefit at one of the fastest rates we’ve seen,” Cem Sibay, vice president of Amazon Prime, said in a statement. “Prime members have already saved millions of dollars on everything from seasonal favorites to popular products.”
“Our weekly Prime member deals are a hit,” echoed A.C. Gallo, President and COO at Whole Foods Market. “We’re excited that Prime members across the U.S. will now be able to take advantage of these savings in our stores.”
Earlier this month, Amazon increased the annual cost of a Prime membership from $99 to $119.
Prime members in select cities also recently gained access to free two-hour delivery for all Whole Foods Market orders over $35. Cities with this perk include Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Richmond, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Virginia Beach.
