5 Ways Juicing Just Got Better: How to Use Leftover Juice Pulp

If you are a fruit and veggie juicer like myself, you may have developed an immunity to tossing out the leftover pulp – it’s simply part of the cleaning-up process. However, I’ve recently been feeling guilty about throwing away excess juicing pulp and considering what can be done with it. Why waste invaluable fiber?
Here are 5 ways to put leftover juice pulp to good use!
1. Dog Biscuits
This doesn’t mean a quick beeline to the doggie tray and scooping juice pulp from the juicer chute. Your dog will not like that kind of doggie treat. Instead, juicing provides an opportunity for you and your dog to benefit from the goodness of fruits and veggies. It’ll take a little elbow grease, but in no time, you will rest assured knowing exactly what your dog’s good behavior is being rewarded with! Make these juice pulp doggie treats, making sure to read over what fruits and veggies are toxic to dogs first.
2. Veggie Broth
Why didn’t I think of this before!? It’s so easy, and this Williams-Sonoma recipe proves it. With a few spices, water, and oil, your vegetable juice pulp can go from cold, fibrous and bland to savory, aromatic and hot! Be sure to juice vegetables first, removing its pulp from the chute and setting aside before juicing any fruits. This way you can keep fruit pulp out of the mix. This same step applies to all suggestions with a vegetable focus.
3. Spaghetti Sauce
I’m always sitting around and laboring over chopping vegetables, such as carrots, mushrooms, celery and onions to add to my homemade marinara sauce. Now, vegetable juice pulp saves the day! Simply begin by placing about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 cup of juice pulp in a saucepan that has been brought to medium-high heat on the stove. Cook for a minute before adding 1 chopped garlic clove and salt and pepper to taste. Let the pulp break down for another five minutes. Next add about 2 cups of plain tomato sauce. Mix and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and continue to cook until the mixture thickens to your liking. Enjoy spaghetti even more knowing the sauce is more wholesome than usual!
4. Veggie Burger
I’ve made veggie burgers out of just about everything, but the most wholesome and lightest recipe has been when I used leftover juice pulp for the ultimate vegan burger. I don’t mind if fruit pulp is in the mix, because a little sweet touch actually complements the burger experience quite well. Plus, the spices in a typical veggie burger recipe keep things savory, as they should be.
5. Muffins
What? That’s right: juice pulp muffins. It sounds strange, but I’m thoroughly intrigued. These muffins are vegan and also made with healthy fat coconut oil, gluten-free flour, and agave and apple sauce to sweeten. Plus, what better way to hide your vegetables in a dessert that is healthy enough to sub in as a breakfast or snack?
