DIY Homemade Facial Moisturizing Exfoliant

Your facial skin is the first to fall victim to winter wear. While the rest of your body is bundled up and protected, your face is exposed to cold, dry air on a daily basis, making it more prone to becoming flaky, red, and lackluster. Instead of splurging on over-the-counter products, often packed with chemicals, additives, and other toxic ingredients, look no further than your very own pantry and refrigerator for a potent combination that will rescue your complexion this season. This 2-ingredient recipe combines the power of raw honey and plain yogurt in one simple stir.

Yogurt contains lactic acid that exfoliates, milkfat that moisturizes, and active cultures that attack bacteria and fungi. Honey is a mild antiseptic and reduces the growth of bacteria on the skin’s surface. It is also a natural exfoliant due to its alpha hydroxy acids, which help to shed dead layers of skin by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells. These acids also contribute to elasticity and collagen production as well as have anti-aging effects. Honey contains antioxidants and amino acids, which work together to both moisturize and protect the skin from free radicals. Make sure that the honey you use is raw, because it’s far more effective when its inherent enzymes are still living and unpasteurized.
