DIY: Homemade Lip Balm for Naturally Kissable Lips

lips

Chapstick – winter essential. It creates a barrier between your lips and the brisky air beyond that likes to sap the moisture and vitality from your luscious pucker. And in lieu of petroleum by-products that we’d rather not slather across our mouths – or even pricey, natural alternatives – why not opt for this homemade lip balm recipe that will have you and eleven of your friends covered until it melts in your car or falls in the dirt – like all good chapsticks inevitably do?

So, this recipe makes enough for twelve chapsticks – one for every purse, every pocket or every family member, you decide. You have the option of recycling old lip balm containers, or you can purchase empty tubes, tins and jars here.

What You’ll Need:

2 tablespoons beeswax (about 1 oz)

2 tablespoons coconut oil

2 tablespoons shea butter

12 lip balm containers

A dropper

Optional: Add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil or a couple drops of your favorite flavoring, such as chocolate or vanilla extract.

What to Do:

1. Melt beeswax in a small pan over low heat. Add coconut oil and shea butter, melting the ingredients together. Add your essential oils here.

2. Using a small medicinal dropper, pour the melted liquid into your lip balm containers. Add a few extra drops to the top after filling each container as the ingredients will shrink as they cool.

3. Cool completely to harden. Cover with cap and decorate or label if you’d like. Distribute as desired.
