How Alessandra Ambrosio Keeps Her Body in Runway-Ready Shape
Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio might be hanging up her Victoria’s Secret angel wings, but that doesn’t mean she’s giving up on her workout routine.
The Brazilian beauty is one of many celebs, including her fellow runway walkers, who can be found sweating it out at Burn 60 Studios in Los Angeles.
Described as a “performance-driven, high intensity interval training studio,” clients can burn up to 900 calories during each 45-60 minute full body workout.
If you’re curious about how you can tone up like an A-list model, here’s everything you need to know about this super sweat-inducing workout. (Anything for those glam gams, right?)
What is Burn 60?
Highlighting their three performance pillars — endurance, strength, and speed — each full body workout combines heart-pumping cardio bursts on a treadmill with both HIIT and strength training moves.
“It’s a full body workout for all fitness levels that combines the spirit of group training with personalized attention from an expert trainer,” says Julie Diamond, a Master Instructor at Burn 60. “There is 24 people in a class, max. We really get to know the client and their goals. We believe the more personalized the program, the more effective it is.”
Why Do Models Love It?
“The burn workout is great for models because it combines both strength and cardio to help models lean out and build strength,” Lana Titus, another Master Instructor at the studio, tells us. “Because Burn is full body, we spend timewith each muscle group in every class to allow for full body toning.”
Titus says models can choose their own weights so they can either pick light or heavy, but because they are usually going for a more sleek and toned appearance, they typically go for lighter weights and higher reps.
Adds Diamond: “Strength training and intervals are at the core of training routines [for models] because they both boost fat-burning potential and increase endurance.”
Consistent strength training is known to increase one’s metabolism so when you couple that with intense cardio, like running, you’re guaranteed an efficient, calorie-torching workout.
What’s a Typical Workout?
So what does a typical “supermodel” workout look like?
“I’ll start with a warm-up, consisting of five minutes on the treadmill, and three to five minutes of dynamic stretching,” says Diamond. “Then I’ll combine five to ten minutes of strength training with five to ten minutes of running on the treadmill. We’ll go back and forth from strength to the treadmill.”
For the strength training portion, Diamond prefers using compound exercises that work more than one muscle group at a time. “I’ll choose two different muscle groups to work on. For example, legs and shoulders,” she says. “So we’ll do squats with an overhead press and backward lunges with a lateral raise.”
What are the Benefits?
HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is known to be an effective training technique by increasing your heart rate and burning more fat in less time than traditional aerobic exercise. Studies show that doing 15 minutes of HIIT burns more calories than jogging on a treadmill for an hour. Combine that with the many healthy and fat burning benefits of strength training and there’s no wonder why supermodels flock to this workout.
If you’d like to give this sweat session a shot, Burn 60 has two locations in Brentwood and West Hollywood. Who knows? Maybe after a few workouts, you might earn your “wings” too — or at least some awesome abs.
