5 Ways to Smell Good, Without Deodorant

Smelling good is just as much about what you put into your body as what you put on your body. Sure, we’re all rocking our favorite body soap (Dr. Bronners anyone?), and you may even have given our Gettin’ Pitty With It: The Best DIY Deodorant a crafty try, but we’ve got five healthy habits to, well, get in the habit of, if smelling oh-so-good is on your agenda… naturally so.
Hot Yoga, Hell Yeah
Sweating is good for you! It rids the body of toxins. So, instead of going to great lengths to prevent your armpits from sweating using deodorant products containing toxic chemicals and derivatives of heavy metals like aluminum, instead put some hot yoga on the agenda. Sweating it out regularly in such a BIG way will have you body odor free in no time!
Meatless Mondays, or More
Since the odor that comes out of your body reflects what you put in, you should know, red meat is the number one cause of bad body odor. Red meat causes stagnation in the body, putrefying in the digestive tract and releasing all sorts of toxins into the bloodstream through the large intestine. If you start to become mindful of it, you’ll find that people who consume a large quantity of red meat on a regular basis tend to have much stronger body odor than those who avoid it. So…
A Plant-Based Diet is Nature’s Deodorant
Why? Well, it seems that a plant-based diet is an internal deodorizer, for the chlorophyll and other phytonutrients cleanse you from the inside out. Some of the best foods for that include parsley, cilantro, celery and all mint species. The aromatic herbs are also excellent: Sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and so on.
Garlic & Onions, Not So Good
Unfortunately, these beloved spices are so pungent they emanate from pores for days after consumption contributing to strong body odor. They produce sulfurous gases when digested, which in turn are absorbed into the blood stream and released through your lungs and pores.
Avoid Alcohol
It’s pretty safe to say we’ve all woken up after a night out with a few too many pints of that awesome artisan beer (or worse!) only to reek of nothing good. Too much alcohol undoubtedly makes your sweat and your breath smell less than lovely, so practice moderation on this one.
