Green Ways to Decorate Your Patio

On a mild summer day, there’s nothing I enjoy more than a nice, shady spot where I can kick back and read a good book. It’s the best time of year to enjoy your outdoor space, so why not liven it up with some “green” decore?

Re-use old indoor items. Everything from your old kitchen table to that dusty rocking chair can be moved outside. To protect it from the elements, add an eco-friendly outdoor-safe finish, such as linseed oil or tung oil. If you don’t have any furniture ready to make the move, search for pieces that are made out of recycled materials. The Patio Connection is an online store that offers many options. Teak wood furniture is also eco-friendly, since the wood is naturally protected from the elements by the organic teak oil in the wood. No need for staining!

Plant a cute herb garden. It’s an attractive addition to your patio space and also useful! Visit a local nursery for starter plants, and then choose an area where the plants will receive plenty of light. To keep away pests, you can mix a small amount of organic castile soap and water, and spray it on once a week. Soon you’ll be able to enjoy the “herbs” of your labor! Do I see some homemade pesto in your future?

Create ambiance with organic candles. Nothing beats sitting outside with a glass of wine in the candlelight! But if you’re looking for additional lighting options, consider investing in solar lights. There are no wires to deal with, and a fully-charged light provides over 14 hours of light.
