Healthy Chocolate Mint Shake Recipe

Shake or smoothie… We’d say shake, because it’s so dang good, but you could call it a smoothie if you really want to.

This Chocolate Mint Smoothie Tastes Like a Milkshake

So what’s in this shake? Oat milk ice cream, dates, coconut yogurt, spinach, mint, cacao nibs, and collagen, one of our wellness BFFs. Collagen is great for your hair, skin, joints, and nails—it even speeds up wound healing. Some of our favorite collagen powders are made by Crushed Tonic (their Pure Unflavored Marine Collagen sachets would be great in this shake recipe). For plant-based eaters, we have been super impressed with the Aloe Gorgeous Plant-Based Collagen Support by Ora Organic.

What makes this chocolate mint shake healthy?

Oat Milk

For starters, it’s made with oat milk instead of dairy. You can really use any type of milk for this, though—coconut milk would also be divine.

Spinach

This shake—which could also be called a smoothie, but it really tastes like a shake—also has spinach in it. Before you write this recipe off because of the spinach, just know that you really can’t taste it, but you can see its beautiful rich green color. Spinach is rich in vitamin C, which is great for immunity and your skin. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory, which is excellent for brain health, and it’s rich in phytonutrients and chlorophyll which helps reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Spinach is also high in iron which is great for energy, and it’s rich in antioxidants for fighting off free radicals that can age you. It’s also full of vitamin K which is great for bone and blood health.

Dates

Dates are so good for you! They are what gives this recipe its sweetness (along with the oat milk ice cream, of course). Dates are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They can help with digestion and gut health, and they’re a natural anti-inflammatory. Some say they’re even an aphrodisiac for women!

Collagen

Collagen has taken the wellness world by storm for its skin, hair, nails, and joint support. Sadly, it’s a fact of life that our collagen starts fading in our early 20s. Luckily we have collagen powders to help supplement! Read our guide to Marine Collagen by a registered dietitian to learn more about this supportive ingredient.

Mint

Mint has a long history of medicinal uses. It’s rich in antioxidants, and helps keep your gut healthy. It’s been used to treat sore throats, and it’s a helpful expectorant that removes mucus and phlegm. So refreshing!

Cacao Nibs

Cacao nibs are small pieces of crushed cacao beans. They’re unsweetened and have a bitter, chocolatey flavor. However, in this recipe, all you taste is the chocolate goodness. There’s absolutely no bitterness. These little guys are also rich in antioxidants, which help reduce cell damage in the body. They’re rich in nutrients that may help with inflammation and support your immune system.
