Beat the Heat! Sugar-Free Blackberry Lemonade Recipe

Lemonade is a summer staple, but with all that sugar, what should be an otherwise refreshing and light drink actually ends up raising your blood sugar levels and packing on the pounds. Taking out the sugar, however, may leave the lemonade tasting sour and lacking a smooth sweetness. This blackberry lemonade recipe is sugar-free, guilt-free and lip-smacking delicious, down to the last drop. Now you can have your summer traditions without the worrisome sugar.

This blackberry lemonade recipe is sweetened with stevia, which is a zero-calorie, zero-glycemic sweetener that derives from the stevia leaf. It is the optimal sweetener for keeping the sugar count low, but if you don’t yet have it on hand, you can swap it for agave, honey or maple syrup, which are less refined than cane sugar, but be aware they do also contain a hefty sugar load. You can also add fresh basil or mint to the mix for a more beautiful presentation and complex flavor profile. And if it’s nearing happy hour, spike the lemonade with some vodka for a fruity late afternoon or evening buzz.
