Pink Dinner Roll Recipe with Beets

Ingredients

Method
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and let stand for 5-10 minutes.

Add about 1 cup whole wheat flour and salt to yeast and water mixture, and then add the beets and onions. Continue to add the rest of the whole wheat flour, evenly stirring it in. Gradually begin adding white flour until the dough is thick enough to knead. Knead for about 10 minutes and continue to add as much flour as necessary to keep the dough from sticking to your hands. Shape the dough into a ball, place in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise for about 2 hours in a warm environment.

Once the dough has risen, prepare your baking dishes by greasing or flour dusting them. Shape your rolls (keeping in mind that they will likely double in size once baked) and place them on baking trays to rise for another 20-30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F in the meanwhile. Once the oven is ready, bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving and brush the tops with oil or water right after taking them out of the oven.
