Donald Trump is still president. There are Nazi rallies happening on American soil. And corporate greed is at an all-time high.

But if you’re looking for a glimmer of hope that a peaceful utopia does indeed await us in the not-so-distant-future, CBD may be that yellow (ok, bright green) brick road pointing us to the Emerald City. CBD — the nonpsychoactive cannabidiol compound in cannabis — has just shaken off its hippie dust and Birkenstocks and traded them in for diamonds and Louboutins.

Barneys, the epitome of luxury, has announced that it is adding a cannabis department, “The High End”, to its Beverly Hills location.

Cannabis was once anathema to the A-list Beverly Hills culture — the Grateful Dead-associated hackeysack fuel is now its dollar-coated darling.

“Barneys New York has always been at the forefront of shifts in culture and lifestyle, and cannabis is no exception,” Daniella Vitale, chief executive officer and president at Barneys New York, said in a statement.

“Many of our customers have made cannabis a part of their lifestyle, and The High End caters to their needs with extraordinary products and service they experience in every facet of Barneys New York.”

The new 300-square-foot shop will sit on the fifth floor of the flagship Beverly Hills location and offer a range of CBD products from CBD-infused skincare to legit headshop gear minus the blacklight posters: vaporizers, tinctures, lighters, trays and cases to keep your weed in.

“I’m so thrilled that cannabis culture has come so far that it can exist and feel perfectly at home in such a prestigious context as Barneys New York,” Scott Campbell, co-founder of luxury cannabis product seller Beboe, said in a statement. Beboe will be a featured Barneys brand.

“Barneys has never been shy about pushing creative boundaries in retail, and it makes perfect sense that they would be the first to support and elevate cannabis to new levels.”

CBD consumption is on the rise; the number of consumers purchasing CBD products doubled last year across the globe. The 2018 U.S. Farm Bill legalized the sale of CBD products as well, bringing it to mainstream culture.

CBD has been hailed for its anti-inflammatory benefits. It’s also linked to decreased anxiety and stress, improved mental health, and can aid in sleep. It may also prove life-changing for people suffering from epilepsy or Dravet syndrome. A Colorado-based brand, Charlotte’s Web, is named after a girl who saw her daily Dravet seizures drop significantly with the help of cannabis.
