If you’re one of the people thinking… ew, gross! Let us make a case in favor of eating this fluffy white stuff before you ditch the idea all together. Yes, snow does contain bacteria… it’s actually the bacteria that helps it form into flake. But according to Dr. Penelope Dennehy, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' committee on infectious diseases, "It's a very ubiquitous bacteria that's everywhere. Basically, none of the food we eat is sterile. We eat bacteria all the time."
And since our tummies contain tons of acid, the bacteria doesn’t stand a chance. And really, how many times have you heard of people dying from eating snow? Just make sure to collect it in a clean bowl, don’t eat it off the ground, don’t overdo it, and above all else, steer clear of the yellow snow.

Cranberry Snow Ice Cream
- 8 cups of clean fresh snow
- 1 3/4 cups of homemade sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon of high quality natural or organic vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon homemade cranberry sauce (or sub in your favorite fruit)
Once it starts snowing, grab a bowl and put it outside. Once the bowl is filled with pure, white snow, bring it inside and immediately mix in cold sweetened condensed milk (ditch the canned stuff, and use our recipe!), vanilla, and cranberry sauce. Serve in chilled glasses immediately.
