Beauty Expert Suzanne LeRoux Shares Her Top Spring to Summer Beauty Picks

A love for self-care through beauty rituals got Suzanne LeRoux, President of One Love Organics, through law school and inspired her to create her brand of luxury natural beauty products.

And she agrees that your skin needs a good beauty ritual when transitioning from spring to summer.

“Your skin does change with each season and if your skincare routine isn’t working its magic, that is a signal that it could be time for a revamp,” LeRoux says.

She shows her skin some love during spring by focusing on exfoliation and hydration.

“Contrary to popular belief, your skin actually needs to exfoliate when it is extra dry,” she says. “I like to use a good detox mask two to three times per week to gently remove dead skin cells that can build up and leave you with dull, lackluster skin. I also like to focus on hydrating products like spritzing moisture mists throughout the day and using a good cream moisturizer morning and evening.”

Put Some Spring in Your Skin Care Routine

During spring, we finally get to feel the sun on our skin. But be careful. “Your first few times in the sun after a winter hibernation can be a shock for your skin,” LeRoux says. “In the spring, when the weather is mild and cooler, you may even stay in the sun too long and experience sunburn, windburn and irritable skin as a result.”

She likes to use a good antioxidant serum with an SPF on her face and décolleté this time of year to make sure that delicate skin stays protected.

When the weather turns warm, you also start to sweat more and produce more oil, which could lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

“It’s super important to make sure that you double cleanse in the evening to make sure your skin is totally free of the sunscreen, makeup, and grime that accumulates during the day,” she says. “Double cleansing is really simple. Just use an oil or lotion-based cleanser to remove makeup and follow up with a mild foaming cleanser to purify.”

And don’t forget to rinse. She says skimping on rinsing leads to residue build-up, which can cause breakouts, decrease the results of your favorite treatment product, clog pores, and irritate and dry out your skin. “Rinse thoroughly, even when you are rushing in the morning or dog-tired at night,” she says. “The jawline, hairline, and nose are the most commonly neglected spots, so show them some love.”

Show Your Eyes Some Love, Too

More sun means more squinting, which can lead to premature wrinkles around your eyes.

“Spring is the perfect time to pair a good eye balm with big sunglasses for maximum protection for your eyes,” LeRoux says.

“To help combat fine lines and wrinkles, find a good eye balm with a high concentration of antioxidants and skin conditioners to help to battle everyday environmental elements and plump up and smooth the look of your eye area.”

Don’t Forget to Spring Clean Your Beauty Products

Part of prepping your skin for summer means cleaning out all of your old makeup, clumpy mascara, and expired cleansers. LeRoux suggests doing a complete spring cleaning of your makeup bag.

LeRoux goes through her cabinet and makeup bag and throws out:

  • Any products over six months old
  • Any oil-based products (facial oils, cleansing oils, balms) older than a year
  • Mascara older than three months

“Old, expired products can host a buildup of bacteria and other nasties, leading to potentially clogged pores, redness, irritation, and dull skin,” she says.

“Makeup brushes, too, are often overlooked, and can store unwanted germs and viruses. I recommend washing brushes at least once a week with a gentle cleanser,” she says. “Something this simple can have a huge impact on the overall health of skin. I have helped people literally change their skin almost overnight by simply tossing products and washing makeup brushes.”

Suzanne LeRoux’s Natural Beauty Product Picks for Spring to Summer

Get your face and body ready for warmer days with these beauty picks from an organic beauty expert. “I get lots of compliments on my natural glow when I follow this routine,” LeRoux says.

One Love Organics Love + Charcoal Masque

LeRoux loves using this mask to replenish her skin. The star of this face mask—activated charcoal—draws out impurities from the skin and lightly exfoliates. While nourishing cupuacu butter adds in moisture. “My skin just usually looks so withered and dull by the end of the season,” LeRoux says. “It helps to detoxify any remnants of being stuck in the heated indoors for months.”

One Love Organics Skin Dew Coconut Water Cream

Good for all skin types but especially useful for dull, dehydrated skin, smoothing this cream on freshly cleansed skin will give your face a hydrating boost. LeRoux says she loves to use this cream to thoroughly hydrate and plump her skin. It’s made up of more than 50 percent mineral rich coconut water, so it’s ultra moisturizing. And, acacia, jojoba, and sunflower oils form a protective, breathable layer to help lock-in all that hydration.

W3LL People Bio Bronzer Stick

LeRoux says she breaks out this bronzer stick to add a touch of natural tan to her skin. It’s perfect to use during the transition from spring to summer to give you a sun-kissed glow before pool season starts. This bronzer stick adapts to any skin tone and doesn’t dry you out. Instead, organic green tea, aloe, and olive oil help keep skin hydrated.

Vapour Organic Beauty Siren Lipstick in Purr

This rich pink color pairs perfectly with the W3LL People Bio Bronzer Stick, LeRoux says. “It’s a fresh, natural look for spring.” And, when your lipstick is non-toxic and made up of 70 percent organic ingredients, you won’t feel bad putting it on your lips.

One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Polish

This citrusy body scrub will put you right in the mood for warmer days. Its ultra-concentrated formula with Vitamin C ester, aloe, shea, and organic sugar crystals will exfoliate and smooth skin just in time for tank tops and shorts weather. LeRoux says she using the polish before shaving, on her elbows and knees, and to prep feet for the ultimate natural mani-pedi.

One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum and Gardenia + Tea Body Lotion

LeRoux says she mists on Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum after showering and then applies a light layer of Gardenia + Tea Body Lotion to lock-in hydration and beautifully scent her skin.
