About Caraway Home

Caraway has made a name for itself with fun colorways and functional kitchen products that live up to the hype.

But the hype goes beyond high design. They’re committed to sustainability. They walk the walk when it comes to the environment and human health. (Read our full review of Caraway Home, here.) Here are five reasons why we’re smitten with Caraway Home:

  1. Ethical Manufacturing Process: They support BSCI and SMETA certified manufacturing partners where employees are safe, paid fairly, given benefits, and work regulated hours.
  2. Sustainable Packaging: All orders are free of any single-use plastics and shipped in recycled cardboard packaging.
  3. Consideration for the Planet: Their cookware releases less CO2 into the environment when manufactured compared to traditional non-stick coatings.
  4. No “forever chemicals”: Traditional non-stick, PTFE, pans contain forever chemicals that don’t break down in the environment — or the human body.
  5. Dedication to making cooking healthier and easier with non-toxic non-stick ceramic coating, derived from natural materials like silica.

While Caraway Home is not the only brand of non-toxic, non-stick cookware on the market, (you can consult our non-toxic cookware guide for other options), they are among our faves.

A Non-Toxic Non-Stick That Actually Works

Image of Caraway Home cookware set in cream on gas range with sage green painted backsplash and wood utensils in a stone canister off to the side. Caraway Cookware is a premier safe ceramic coated cookware made with an aluminum core. The ceramic coating makes hand washing is a breeze. They are not necessarily dishwasher safe. The nonstick coating is one of the best and finest and performs best over medium heat. Caraway Cookware has some of the healthiest non-stick pans on the market. They are also one of the safest cookware brands with their cookware sets.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges with non-toxic non-stick pots and pans is that the pans quickly lose their non-stick slickness and food and delicate items like eggs and fish start to stick to the pan.

Don’t even get us started on baked goods, like these incredible plant-based pumpkin muffins, sticking in bakeware! Read our rundown on Caraway’s non-stick non-toxic bakeware along with our top tested and reviewed bakeware picks.

In our testing (we’ve been using Caraway for about three years now and the first set still has it’s nonstick qualities), we found that Caraway’s ceramic coating is way more durable than the vast majority of non-toxic, non-stick cookware out there (keep reading to learn more about our editor-in-chief and professionally trained chef, Laura Klein’s experience with testing non-toxic cookware).

What we also love is that Caraway Cookware is free of toxic PFOA, PTFE and other PFAs, otherwise known as “forever chemicals” that don’t exist in nature (read our article to learn more, The Reason PTFE Nonstick Pans Aren’t Safe, It has Something to Do with Loose Regulations and Our Drinking Water).1

According to WebMD, the use of these chemicals and other heavy metals like lead and cadmium (none of which you’ll find in Caraway products) have been linked to increased risk for cancer, changes in liver function, increased cholesterol, thyroid disease, increases in blood pressure and more.2

Pots and Pans for Cooking and Storage

Image of Caraway Home cookware set in sage, stored in cabinet with Caraway's storage organizers that comes with a canvas lid holder that hangs on the inside of the cabinet door and pot/pan holders that look great on a counter or in a wood cabinet, as they are pictured here. Caraway cookware is also transferable from the stove to the oven and can handle heat up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit (which is a higher heat temperature than most non-stick cookware we tested). This is a big deal because high heat quickly deteriorates both traditional (think PTFE) and non-toxic non-stick coatings, and renders them useless.

When it comes to traditional PTFE non-stick pans, you run the risk of polymer fume fever, or Teflon flu, an inhalation fever resulting from fumes released when PTFE reaches temperatures this high.3 And did we mention how beautiful they are? Their sleek, yet elegant design and colors are positively stunning.

And when it comes to storage, Caraway solved the stacking problem of nonstick pots and pans.

Why is stacking nonstick pans a problem? Because it creates continuous micro and large scratches that deteriorate any non-stick surface, including PTFE and ceramic coated surfaces, reducing the nonstick life of your pans by months or even years. This is the same reason why you want to stay away from using metal utensils with any nonstick pan you use including PTFE and ceramic coated cookware

Thus, if you’re thoughtful about how you store your nonstick pots and pans, the heat and utensils you use, you can add years to the life of your pans. Really. It’s the reason why Laura Klein’s first set of Caraway Cookware is still in great shape to this day, it’s three years old!

Oh, and you can’t forget about the lids for your pots and pans. How many times have you hunted through drawers to find the right lid to your chosen pan only to come up short? Caraway solved that problem too. With every purchase of a cookware set comes a canvas lid holder that you can hang on a cabinet or pantry door or wall where all of your lids to your pots and pans fit neatly. No more digging or rifling around!

But don’t just take our word for it! According to Piper Mangieri, a mother of two and owner of Mangieri’s Pizza Cafe in Austin, compared to other non-toxic options on the market, Caraway is unmatched by way of non-stick and durability. She loves the organization system that comes with every Caraway purchase of a cookware set that includes magnetic pan racks and canvas lid holders for easy storage. This brilliantly convenient storage helps limit the chips and scratches that seem to be inevitable with non-stick cookware.

“But even if you don’t use the organization system, I still find that their products are incredibly durable,” says Mangieri. “Caraway is the answer to non-toxic cooking at home. It’s simply the best I’ve found,” she says.

Caraway Cookware Tested by Resident Chef, Laura Klein

Image of a food prep session displayed on a white marble kitchen island with wood cutting board. Caraway Home food storage containers (in white and blue) filled with fresh berries, cut melon, olives, and microgreens.
Our resident chef and editor-in-chief, Laura Klein (that’s her in her kitchen) is a food prep master and with Caraway Home’s food storage containers, she’s keeping her food the way she likes it — free of plastics and toxins. Credit: Image courtesy of Laura Klein + Organic Authority Studio

Trained chef and editor-in-chief Laura Klein has tested a lot of non-toxic cookware from different brands for years. Yes, really. Most non-toxic nonstick pots and pans don’t last past three months, six if you’re lucky and treat them perfectly. Even then, most end up being recycled in six. They are simply too thin, burn up food easily with hot spots, and the non-stick coating doesn’t last.

Laura started testing Caraway’s non-toxic cookware shortly after they launched as a brand. She was impressed not only by the high design, but the quality of the cookware itself. It carries a heavier weight, with its ceramic coated aluminum core, which gives it improved heat conduction, (read, no hot spots) with stainless steel handles and overall has a more solid feel to it.

Another small but favorite safety feature of Laura’s — the pan handles have a notch on them, signaling to you, the home chef, not to move your hand any closer to the pan. Laura cooks with them on a gas stove but these pots and pans are stovetop agnostic. You can use them on induction and electric stoves, too.

The nonstick surface also performs much better than other brands and lasts much longer. See a compilation of our favorite non-toxic ceramic cookware brands, here. You don’t need a huge amount of oil to help keep it non-sticky. But you do still have to treat it with care (i.e., you can’t treat it like your stainless steel, carbon steel, or cast iron cookware). That means no metal utensils, use only wood or silicone, and she recommends you wash by hand (stay away from harsh wire scrubbers).

Because the non-stick surface works so well, cleaning is really easy. There’s no hard scrubbing needed. (If you’re particularly rough on your cookware, here are three reasons you may want to consider cast iron.)

She’s cooked everything from veg spinach lasagna, enchiladas and nachos in the oven (she even burned the cheese and it wiped off easily with a little water and soap), roasted vegetables like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, to simple pastas with fresh tomatoes, basil, parmesan cheese and pesto, to cooking delicate items like eggs (which she eats just about every morning!) and fish. Oatmeal is another favorite go to, and clean up is a breeze.

Here is one of the many versions of enchiladas Laura has made in her own kitchen with Caraway’s non-toxic, non-stick bakeware, and clean-up is always a breeze. These were made in the large Rectangle Pan, that makes the enchiladas look small! Credit: Image courtesy of Laura Klein + Organic Authority Studio

And it’s stood the test of time. Laura’s good about maintaining and storing it properly which lengthens the life of the cookware. If you choose Caraway Home, be secure in knowing your set will last for years and that your investment isn’t going to waste. “Caraway Cookware is by far one of the best non-toxic, safe, nonstick cookware lines on the market today,” says Laura.

If you’re searching for a full set, the standard Caraway Cookware Set is where it’s at. This 7-piece set is perfect for any new recipe you’ve got cooking this year (like this insanely delicious oatmeal with caramelized bananas) and comes with a 10.5 inch frying pan, a 3 quart saucepan and lid, a 4.5 quart saute pan and lid, a 6.5 quart dutch oven, and of course, a canvas lid storage holder and magnetic storage for all of your fancy new pans.

Save $150 when you purchase this bestselling cookware as a set, though you can certainly purchase pieces individually depending on your needs. Either way, you can choose from 10 different color combinations, including their Iconics Collection, which includes rose quartz, sapphire, black (Laura’s fav) and white with the most gorgeous goddess-like gold handles.

2. The Bakeware Set

If your giftee is more of a baker than a cook (bless them), then this is the set for them. This coconut flour paleo banana bread and easy paleo egg muffins will effortlessly pop right out of the pan intact.

Caraway’s bakeware comes with all the benefits of their cookware: non-toxic, non-stick, ceramic coating with an aluminum core. The aluminum core design underneath the non toxic ceramic coating—along with the durability of the design of each pan—allows for even heat distribution. This is especially important when you’re baking. Nobody wants raw cookies on one side and burnt on the other (do leave a comment below if this is actually your favorite cookie style).

Now let’s talk colors. Beyond the bespoke colors, the bakeware set is now also offered in the Iconics Collection in black or white with glamorous gold handles.

The Caraway bakeware set is a 11 piece set that comes with 2 magnetic storage units, a cooling rack, a 12 cup muffin pan, 2 baking sheets, a 9×13 inch rectangular pan, a loaf pan, a 9 inch square pan and 2 9 inch circle pans. You save $150 when you buy them as a set, but you can purchase pieces individually as needed.

Featuring a non-toxic ceramic-coated interior (yay for non-stick that actually works without the yucky chemicals), this durable non-stick pan makes healthy cooking easy and cleaning — dare we say — sort of fun.

This lovely 10.5″ workhorse of a pan comes in the Classic and Iconics Collections and is available in eight colors, making it a great choice for your first Caraway piece and a brilliant way to add a pop of color to your kitchen.
