Eating Butter, Drinking Whole Milk, and Having Dessert…Are Good for You?

We’re constantly told what we shouldn’t do. Don’t eat carbs. Don’t eat fat. Don’t eat sugar. Don’t eat white bread. Don’t eat bacon. It’s hard to keep it all straight. You already know that eating organic is something you should be doing… but what about other shoulds? Here are three you may not know about… and may be surprised to hear!
Why You Should Be Eating Butter
When we’re trying to lose weight and eat healthfully, butter is often one of the first things to go. But if you’re replacing it with something else, you might be worse off.
Margarine and other fake butter spreads are often full of polyunsaturated fats. Some polyunsaturated fats, like omega 3s in fish or those found in nuts are good for us in small doses. But other polyunsaturated fats are synthetic or shouldn’t be consumed in the doses that they are nowadays. Our bodies don’t recognize these fats, and inflammation is a common response. While a bit of inflammation keeps your immune system in check, a lot of inflammation has been linked to serious health problems, including heart disease and diabetes. In addition, the free radicals in these foods can make us age faster and even effect damage to DNA and RNA.
So what if margarine is slightly lighter in fat content? Butter is a natural product, and organic, real butter is some of the most heavenly-tasting stuff in the world. So add it back to your diet! In moderation, of course.
Why You Should Be Drinking Whole Milk
We’ve been told to drink skim milk for decades. It’s lower in fat, and you still get calcium and vitamins. Right?
Not quite.
Natural milk contains vitamins A, D, E and K. However the last of these isn’t contained in skim milk, becaue vitamin K is found in the butterfat of the milk. The other three are fat-soluble vitamins, which means that you can’t absorb them from skim milk, unless another source of fat is being consumed at the same time. And above all: the vitamin D in most brands of skim milk is synthetic and hardly worth its salt in comparison with the real stuff.
And these aren’t even the only reasons! If you need more convincing, there’s a whole host of health problems related to skim milk.
Instead, educate yourself about milk, and then grab a carton of organic, grass-fed, unprocessed whole milk, or better yet, unpasteurized milk from a farmer, if you can get your hands on some. You’ll be much better off… flavor-wise and health-wise!
Why You Should Be Eating Dessert
In short? Because it’s good for your soul!
You should be enjoying your food. And while it’s all well and good to enjoy a kale salad (yum!) or a nice black bean burger, sometimes you need a little something sweet afterwards… and that’s not a bad thing!
Here are some of our favorite desserts:

Desserts can be both satisfying and healthy. And eating something you enjoy is good for your emotional and physical well being.
