Beyoncé and JAY-Z have spoken, and they want us to embrace a plant-based diet for “the health of the planet.”

The power couple wrote the introduction for the new book The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World, which was written by Marco Borges, Beyoncé’s trainer, and released on December 31, 2018.

“Having children has changed our lives more than anything else,” they wrote in the foreword. “We used to think of health as a diet – some worked for us, some didn’t. Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible.”

Borges famously helped the twosome adopt a vegan diet back in 2013 through his plant-based meal plan, 22 Days Nutrition, in which they also became partners in. While neither stuck to eating vegan full time, Beyoncé returned to the diet in 2018 for 44 days in preparation for her Coachella performance.

And now it seems the effects of plant-based living have stuck with the superstar couple.

“We all have a responsibility to stand up for our health and the health of the planet. Let’s take this stand together. Let’s spread the truth. Let’s make this mission a movement. Let’s become ‘the Greenprint.'”

While the couple wrote they were “not about promoting any one way of living your life,” they did say that adding more plant-based meals to one’s diet has a “profound impact on our health and the environment.”

They added they “want to challenge you, as we challenge ourselves” to help make a difference.

And without a doubt, their fans are up to the challenge. No sooner did Beyoncé post about her avocado toast on Instagram last year with the caption, “44 days until Coachella!! Vegan Time!!” when many of her 112 million followers immediately posted they were following suit.

And why wouldn’t they? A plant-based diet can contribute to a smaller carbon footprint and can help consumers reap many of its proven health benefits, including reducing obesity by half and reducing the risk of heart failure.

While many celebs, including Meghan Markle, Miley Cyrus, and Kate Mara have also advocated the benefits of a vegan diet, if anyone can influence the general masses to adopt a plant-based lifestyle for good, it’s most likely going to be music’s royal couple.
