The Health and Beauty Benefits of Celery Juice

According to Mia Stern, certified health coach, raw food chef, and founder of Brooklyn Culinary Arts, celery is easy to juice because it’s water-rich and pairs well with so many fruits and veggies. But on its own, says Stern, celery juice is full of health and beauty benefits. Here are a few reasons why Stern can’t get enough celery juice.
1. Hydration

Because celery is 95% water, it’s incredibly hydrating. One of the main benefits of celery juice is its hydration benefits, which can be particularly important in the morning when you’ve been without water for over seven hours.
2. pH Balance

Along with helping with hydration, celery juice is great for balancing hormones. In particular, celery juice restores pH balance to your blood. It’s very alkaline, which is important for optimal health.
3. Gut Health

Great for the gut because it balances stomach acid. It restores the balance of hydrochloric acid in the body, which is important for gut health. As we age, hydrochloric acid in the stomach reduces, which makes it more difficult for the body to absorb nutrients.
4. Anti-Cancer Benefits

Another one of the best benefits of celery juice is its anti-cancer benefits. It contains apigenin and luteolin, two very powerful anti-cancer flavonoids1.
5. Cardiovascular Benefits

Contains a compound called phthalides, which relaxes the artery walls. As a result, it’s beneficial for reducing cardiovascular disease2.
6. Weight Loss

It’s a diuretic, which makes it really good for cleansing the system and for weight loss. It also helps with de-puffing throughout the body, especially reducing under-eye bags.
7. Electrolytes

Some of the best benefits of celery juice are that it’s a great source of electrolytes. It contains natural salts, which are great for restoring electrolyte balance post-workout.
8. Digestion Health

Need some extra help when it comes to digestive health? Celery juice is great for digestion; it helps in particular with constipation.
9. Reduces Inflammation

If you start drinking celery juice more often, you will see that it reduces inflammation. The flavonoid luteolin controls inflammation throughout the body1.
10. Liver Health

Celery juice is full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Because of this, celery juice is a great drink to have when you want to cleanse the liver1.
11. Anti-Aging Benefits

Want to feel and look youthful just by adding a juice to your diet? Then this is another one of the best benefits of celery juice, as it contains anti-aging flavonoids that stave off wrinkles.
Celery Juice Uses

Celery juice is great first thing in the morning, says Stern. It rehydrates the body right away and loads you up on nutrients and antioxidants at the same time. Unlike dark leafy greens, which are really trendy right now, celery juice isn’t so harsh on digestion. You can drink a lot of it without any negative side effects. Stern likes to have a celery juice a few times a week, first thing in the morning, but she says you could have a celery juice every morning if you choose.
You can also add the juice to a salad dressing with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice or a summer soup with avocado and cucumber. If you don’t have time to juice, you can also add celery to a salad or dip it in almond butter for a truly tasty snack. Stern says that celery juice is good with healthy fats like olives or nuts because it makes nutrients more bioavailable.
Celery Juice Recipes

Because celery juice has natural salts, it can take some time to enjoy the flavor, according to Stern. Stern recommends mixing it with cucumber and lemon to help with the flavor. A favorite recipe by Stern includes juicing one whole bunch of celery, 2 cucumbers, and 1 peeled lemon.
