DIY Blackout Face Mask Recipe With Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is the new “it” healing ingredient. With its powdery texture and charcoal namesake, it likely doesn’t strike you as the most obvious tool in achieving your health and beauty goals. However, it may be just that – your go-to tool toward combating many health woes, including bloating, constipation, and a variety of illnesses. For these reasons, the stuff has earned quite the loyal following among health enthusiasts. But did you know it works equally impressive wonders for the skin? The following DIY blackout face mask will prove it to you time and time again. It utilizes activated charcoal to the fullest, allowing you to maintain healthy-looking skin, especially during the dry and cold winter months.
Activated charcoal is similar to common charcoal but differentiates itself by way of its production process. To make it, common charcoal is heated in the presence of a gas, which changes the charcoal so that it becomes very porous. These pores are able to trap toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, and other dirt and then eliminate them from the body’s skin, blood, tissues, and organs (when ingested).
This DIY blackout face mask recipe makes the most of not only activated charcoal but also bentonite clay, which possesses similar detoxification properties. Like activated charcoal, bentonite clay isn’t a showstopper when it comes to looks – it’s mud, after all – but it’s an efficient and effective way to heal the body and skin! When mixed with water, bentonite rapidly swells like a highly-porous sponge and takes on an electrical charge. The negative charge of the clay attracts and holds onto the positive charge of toxins and then ejects their minerals back into the body to be used.
Together, activate charcoal, bentonite clay, and water are a trifecta to be reckoned with!
