Natural Healing: How to Clear a Stuffy Nose Instantly

Cold and flu season is upon us. If you’ve ever tried falling asleep or socializing with a stuffy nose, you know it’s torture. Use the following natural remedies to learn how to clear a stuffy nose and kick congestion to the curb, fast.

How to Clear A Stuffy Nose

1. Oil of Oregano

This is one of my daily rituals that benefits the body regardless of whether I’m stuffed up or not. But beware: this stuff is powerful! Oil of oregano has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties. It has also been useful in treating respiratory problems.

Directions: Put a drop of oregano oil on a clean finger and pat your finger under your tongue. Don’t swallow right away. Breathe in and out slowly through the nose. Soon, you’ll feel the effects. Swallow after a few breaths. It will be uncomfortable at first, with tearing eyes and watery mouth, but oil of oregano is harmless at this dosage. Soon your sinuses will begin to drain. Within a few minutes, you’re congestion-free!

2. Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is known to have a slew of health benefits. It holds antimicrobial and antiviral properties, is packed with antioxidants and fights allergies. Like oregano, it is also useful in treating respiratory symptoms.

Directions: Take a drop of peppermint oil and pat it under your nose. Breath in deeply. The aroma will help to clear congestion and will leave you feeling energized and pert for the rest of the day.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide thins mucous and can clear up your sinuses.

Directions: Pour 3% hydrogen peroxide solution into a spray bottle. Lie on your back and spray once up each nostril. If it is too uncomfortable, dilute the hydrogen peroxide solution in more water.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar is alkaline and acts like a sponge against mucous. It is an astringent and fights bacteria. Take a shot of apple cider vinegar orally to clear your sinuses. If that is too strong for your taste, pour 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. Drink and feel the soothing warmth open up your nasal passages.
