Melissa McCarthy Used This Hack to Prevent High Heel Pain at the Oscars

Wearing high heels for an extended amount of time can be painful. No wonder most of us sneak in a pair of sandals at an event so we can give our tootsies a break. But what if your event is the biggest one in the world — like, say, this year’s Oscars — and all eyes (and cameras) are on you? Slipping into a pair of flip flops just won’t do, which is why Melissa McCarthy decided to take another route: she used CBD oil.
In anticipation of her high heel pain, the Best Actress nominee revealed to correspondents on the E! Live From the Red Carpet that she slathered some CBD oil on her toes before she arrived at the Oscars to help ease her discomfort.
McCarthy isn’t the first celeb to use CBD in the name of fashion. According to the Hollywood Reporter, several stylists have used CBD products to help ease the tension and pain that award season can bring for some attendees. US Magazine reports that actress Mandy Moore used CBD oil for her heels during last year’s Golden Globes ceremony.
So can CBD really be a cure-all for our shoe suffering?
Maybe. However, the evidence is still unclear.
CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is the anti-inflammatory oil derived from the hemp plant, and has been known to help alleviate pain and inflammation, anxiety, and sleep problems. While the science behind the efficacy of CBD is far from conclusive, there have been strong scientific links between CBD oil and reduced symptoms of anxiety and multiple sclerosis-related pain.
CBD has only recently gained popularity in the mainstream, which explains why the research on it is pretty new and sparse.
