Kate Moss Joins Juice Craze (But She’s Still Not Crazy About Salads)
Supermodel Kate Moss has always been a fashion icon. But as for a healthy eating icon? Well, not so much. After all, it was Moss who famously said, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”
However, even if time hasn’t aged the British beauty, it seems that it’s at least dispensed her some wisdom. In an interview with The Guardian, the model, once known for her hard partying ways, not only refuses a glass of champagne, but also reveals her new healthier lifestyle.
She’s Mindful of What She’s Eating
It seems like skinny doesn’t actually “taste” that great. “Food is really important,” Moss told the newspaper. “I try to eat healthily…My skin looks better when I eat well, too. Obviously if you eat all that grease, skin just doesn’t look as healthy. I’ve really noticed an improvement since I’ve been more ‘on it’ with food – like eating salads and all that stuff – I never used to really eat salads. And now I’m like, juicing!”
It’s true: your skin mirrors your diet. A high-glycemic diet, one that’s heavy on pizza, bread, and desserts, can make skin appear dull and tired. While a diet filled with wrinkle-fighting antioxidants fruits and vegetables will help make your complexion more radiant and youthful.
As for the style icon’s new obsession, juicing? It helps improve your skin too by not just allowing your body to absorb more nutrients in an efficient way, but by also helping to suppress your appetite for those not-so-healthy foods.
She Exercises Regularly
Like a number of us, Moss has struggled to get her butt to the gym. “I’ve never been a gym bunny or anything like that,” she said. “I was always, like, ‘UGH’, it made me feel ill, but now I’ve actually started working out, I’m really quite into it. I’m at very early stages, but I’ve joined a gym and all that, and it’s made me feel really good. I worked out for an hour every consecutive day for a couple of weeks and it was enough that I really started to see the benefits, which I’d never really done before.”
From increasing strength and endurance to promoting healthy weight loss and preventing chronic illnesses, like diabetes and heart disease, the benefits of a regular sweat session are numerous. Keeping a consistent routine like Moss is key, too. Skipping more than a few workouts affects motivation, endurance, and can increase injury. Your best bet is to construct a regular exercise schedule that fits your lifestyle, and stick to it.
She’s Not a Fan of Social Media
“Social media is just not me. I’ve never really liked it – that whole thing of ‘look at me!’” Moss said. “For me, the more privacy the better, not telling people where I am and what I’m doing. All that is the opposite of what I want to do. I suppose that makes people more interested, I don’t know, but I certainly don’t do it for that reason. It’s not a game plan. I just have to live by my own rules.”
A number of studies have shown that social media can be damaging to our mental well-being. We are all pretty much familiar with the ‘compare game’ that most of us struggle with while scrolling through our Facebook feed. Couple that with the addictive behavior and isolation that social media fosters, and you might want to go offline a la Moss to live a more peaceful existence.
The Takeaway
For such a style icon, it turns out Moss has relatable wellness advice that is actually easy to follow: Juice, exercise, stay off social media, and repeat daily. Now if only we could nail her trademark smokey eye…
