This peppermint bark with dark chocolate is the delightful last-minute holiday treat to whip up as a gift or a gift for yourself. You only need four ingredients and 30 minutes to make this classic dessert that happens to be vegan and gluten-free.

Chocolate peppermint bark is a classic holiday sweet that can’t be skipped. But most people just purchase it in a tin without giving much thought to the ingredients it contains. This homemade chocolate peppermint bark is much healthier and tastier than the store-bought stuff, so skip the tin and whip out your shiny non-toxic bakeware.

This peppermint bark recipe is brimming with rich flavors of dark chocolate and fresh peppermint. Its crunchy, sweet bite will have you reaching for seconds and thirds all winter. We’re suckers for the combo of mint and chocolate, so this peppermint bark with chocolate quickly joined the ranks of unbeatable minty recipes (like this chocolate mint smoothie that drinks like a shake).

So what are our favorite things about this recipe? For one, it’s super easy to put together (no oven or baking necessary, just like our blender chocolate mousse). We also love that it’s a perfect stocking stuffer or gift for the host of any holiday parties — delicious enough to be memorable, but easy enough not to be fussy. And who doesn’t love homemade chocolate peppermint bark?

Why This Vegan Chocolate Peppermint Bark w/ Dark Chocolate Is a Healthier Treat

We might be biased, but we think this is the best peppermint bark recipe because it’s delicious AND vegan. The key to making vegan peppermint bark is coconut oil. Coconut oil helps the chocolate set and harden into a crunchy, addictive slab. It’s also full of health benefits, like its anti-inflammatory properties and healthy fats.

Of course, peppermint bark isn’t complete without a sprinkle of crushed candy canes. Try Yum Earth’s Mini Candy Canes which are free of corn syrup, artificial colors, and flavors. Instead, they’re made with organic cane sugar, organic brown rice syrup, natural peppermint, organic fruit juice, and vegetable color. They’re much cleaner than conventional candy canes and taste just as great!

Easy Chocolate Bark w/ Peppermint Recipe Tips

This recipe is honestly so easy and painless that the hardest part is crushing the candy canes into little pieces. There are a couple of ways to go about it.

The first option is to place them in a sealed bag and then roll over the bag with a rolling pin. The second option is to break them by hand and then chop them with a knife. You can then whack them with a rolling pin to get a more jagged look. I opted for the second option because I personally find it easier, but either will work!

How to Make Peppermint Bark w/ Dark Chocolate

  1. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper, using enough for it to hang over the edges. Crush candy canes with a rolling pin or chop by hand with a knife. Set aside.
  2. Add chocolate, coconut oil, and sea salt to a double boiler. Stirring constantly, melt over medium heat until chocolate is smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour melted chocolate into the baking dish with parchment paper. Sprinkle crushed candy canes onto the chocolate. Place in the freezer to set for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove from freezer and transfer to a cutting board. Cut or break the chocolate peppermint bark into squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
